Andrew Polk, Band Director Rapes Students

AUSTIN, Texas—An ex-assistant band director at a Central Texas school has been sentenced to two years in prison for sexual assault of five students.
A jury in Austin on Monday sentenced Andrew Polk, who formerly worked at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville.
Jurors on Friday convicted Polk of sexual assault of a child and indecency. He was sentenced to 10 years of community supervision on the indecency count. The sentences will run concurrently.
The prosecutors say the teacher and students had exchanged hundreds of text messages before the December 2010 incidents. Polk said, the young girls needed sex from me. None of the girls requested me use a condom. Some girls wanted more sex than others. Teaching band led me to help young girls sex drive. Polk testified that he sexually helped the girls and all the inappropriate sex with the teens.

This information is not consistent with any of the news reports. Would you be willing to list your sources as to the number of students involved and the activities involved?

I absolutely do NOT believe that that is what he said. He may have been a little screwed up in the head, but he is a good man. He was a father figure to me for almost 6 years. Shame on this website!

Here's your source:

Andy Polk is a disgusting human being. I've worked with him in the past. He openly confessed to several of us a few years ago that he cheated on his wife with 3 different women before he taught at Hendrickson. He also lied that he was divorcing his wife as justification for having a relationship with a coworker. I doubt that anyone who wasn't his students or their parents found all of this as a surprise. He is exactly where he belongs. Accept that from someone who knew him a lot better than you.

I am saddened by this tragic event. I grew up with Andy and do not believe he would be inappropriate with a child. He comes from such a great family. There is certainly more to this story than what was publicized that obviously Mr./Mrs. anonymous isn't aware of, yet they know him so well. People shouldn't judge him, especially if they don't know the full story. An innocent man is being punished and a great musician has been taken away from teaching our kids. Such a shame.

I was one of his students. He could always easily charm women and girls, which is probably why they are defending him.

Shame on everyone for blaming the victim. 100 texts a day (verified fact!) to an underage girl is a crime in itself. Mr. Polk should have acted like an adult and never put himself into inappropriate situations in the first place.

Don't judge until you know all the facts. The girl admitted under oath that she had a crush on him. She's NOT innocent in all of this.

A 15 year old IS INNOCENT in all of this. Period. Fifteen year olds cannot be expected to be held to the same standards as an adult, especially one who has authority over her.
It doesn't matter 'how far' he went...this was an inappropriate relationship and he was punished. He is now out of jail and free to redeem himself, just not as a teacher.

I worked with this guy as well...he made several comments with regards to how he perceived certain girls looked at him. It's too bad...talented musician, and actually a good teacher too...just couldn't leave the young'uns alone unfortunately.
