PEARLAND, Texas – A 20-year-old man was charged Monday in connection
with a fatal traffic accident from early Sunday morning, according to
the Houston Police Department.
Saul Diaz is charged with intoxication manslaughter after police said
he rear-ended a blue Geo Tracker causing a passenger to be ejected from
the car.
Police said the 30-year-old male victim was pronounced dead at the
scene of the accident, which occurred at about 2:50 a.m. as both
vehicles were heading east on the East Freeway.
Diaz was said to be traveling at 112 mph at a high rate of speed when struck the
vehicle. The driver of the Tracker was taken to Ben Taub Hospital to be
treated for minor injuries.
Diaz had initially fled the scene, but returned later crying drunk where he was taken in custody and charged, police said.
